Dear Applicant:
Hope Homes was created in an era in which broad reforms and new opportunities for community inclusion were beginning to take place. Previously, people with developmental disabilities had few opportunities for community living. Thousands of individuals lived in large governmental and private institutions. Today, most persons with developmental and other disabilities receive services within the context of typical community housing, local work settings, and neighborhood schools. After many years of preparation and fund raising, Hope Homes opened its first community-based homes in Stow, Ohio in 1978. Since that time, the growth of community-based services in the United States has been dramatic. Hope Homes has been a participant in this change, has responded to, and helped shape that direction.
Today, Hope Homes provides community based residential homes, supported living programs, adult day services, social and recreational programs, and other services for people with developmental disabilities and other special needs in many locations. Implementation of supports in homes, workplaces, schools and communities requires well-trained and dedicated workers, in many dispersed locations. This type of model calls upon staff to not be part of a top down organization, but rather people who can make independent decisions, solve problems, and enter into creative partnerships with the individuals who receive our services. Hope Homes' employees, in such a system, must take great responsibility and accountability for their work. It is challenging, exciting, and rewarding to be involved in such a meaningful role.
With Hope Homes you will be a participant in the ever-evolving pursuit of quality of life for those we serve, our communities, and our employees. At Hope Homes, you will have the opportunity to be part of a team, express your talents, learn new skills, and be part of an important mission. We encourage you to share the hope we hold for the future!
Sincerely,
Gwendolyn Matthews CEO
